چکیده
This work aims to provide a more complete characterization of coastal erosion mitigation and climate change adaptation measures by presenting participatory approach that integrates medium- long-term perspectives, considering simultaneously social, environmental, economic engineering dimensions help decision makers implement sustainable (CCA) strategies. The lists, explains characterizes existing as well their costs positive negative environmental impacts, in three distinct databases. These databases are discussed, complemented validated moments with local stakeholders the Ovar Municipality, Portugal, which represents case study support proposed methodology. Development and climate change: a mainstreaming approach for assessing economic, social, and environmental impacts of adaptation measures.
The paper introduces the so-called climate change mainstreaming approach, where vulnerability and adaptation measures are assessed in the context of general development policy objectives. The approach is based on the application of a limited set of indicators. These indicators are selected as representatives of focal development policy objectives, and a stepwise approach for addressing climate ...
متن کاملAdaptation and Climate Change
This paper deals with the often ignored issue of adaptation to human-induced climate change. Adaptation is not only inevitable but essential to fashioning the least-social-cost strategy to addressing climate change. The urgency for limiting climate change is inversely proportional to society's adaptability. Some limitation strategies are incompatible with adaptation goals (e.g., reducing CO2 ra...
متن کاملParticipatory Climate Adaptation in Coastal Florida: Increasing Roles for Water-Users and Independent Science
A primary attribute of coastal management in Florida is continued building in coastal flood zones, despite long-standing evidence of rising sea levels. Time is increasingly short to focus on more rigorous management policies that actualize long term adaptation to sea level rise. The real estate industry and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are among the primary economic and political drivers of...
متن کاملImpacts of Climate Change on Coastal Erosion and Flood Probability in the Us Pacific Northwest
A simple total water level (TWL) model is employed to investigate the relative importance of various climate controls on the potential for an increased probability of coastal erosion and flooding on sandy beaches of the US Pacific Northwest. Model results suggest that if decadal-scale increases in storm intensity (wave height) continue into the future, this process will have a greater impact on...
